ive been thinking about this recently and the only way it'll stop is if people stop buying these shitty overengineered consumer-unfriendly tech products but yk as well as i do this will never happen. american society equates convenient with good so tech will just keep getting more and more suffocating. it's already over and as much as i wish society could just magically revert back to ~2011 it ain't gonna happen. you and i are living in the age of the tech overlords and oligarchs and there ain't much we can do about it.

How is using an app with something such as a blood pressure device more convenient? i agree it is silly, however, you can still buy appliances without iot, and you always will be able to, and those appliances are usually more robustly designed and cheaper because the r&d budget goes to designing a better product instead of designing a data harvesting blackmail scheme
