>>192698Homogenization of culture, the death of subculture, that kinda thing. Also, there isn't much new media worth being a "fan" of. gen 4 mlp, baby show as it may be, had worldbuilding, lore, all the shit that could justify being autistic about it. A lot of modern media either doesn't have the passion to do that, or doesn't have enough of a cool factor to bring enough people in to start a fan base. Deltatroon is the most recent IP I can think of that did that and even then it's kinda springboarding off Undertale's success. If we got soulful media again we might see fandom re-emerge but I think we're in a cultural dark age and will be for the next maybe 30 years. It's still a working theory rn but I think the last period good times culturally started in the late 70s and ended in the mid 2010s and while I don't subscribe to cyclical theories of history, I think that the rate of technological advancement combined with the current entrenchment of the powers that be means it will be a while before the people push back enough for art to get out of the rut it's in rn.
