you think they'll listen? i have a theory that the current stagnation in the islamic world is caused by the idea that they've already peaked somehow. it's a lot like the russians or the chinese or the italians. instead of working towards a new, better future, they're stuck mourning a time when they controlled their sphere of influence. at its height, islamic society was great, scientifically, culturally, economically, etc., and now it's dead. i think that combined with the rise of europe and the reverberations of the cold war is what caused the middle east to backslide into endless nationalism and theocracy. whenever a progressive, intellectual government tries to spring up, guys with guns end up taking it over, or otherwise they sell out and become capitalist hellscapes (see: UAE).
i dont know shit really about the middle east though except that it sucks that it's in the state that it is, so maybe you have something to say about my little theory iramqi. anyways my thesis is that any attempt to reform the middle east needs to be highly militarized but also very popular with the people, as well as being free of external influence - everyone wants a slice of the middle east: america, europe, russia, china, the gulf states, and most of all turkey all see it as their territory even if they don't say it out loud. more accurately, they see it as an area in which they have a vested interest in controlling, so any attempt to spark any systemic enlightenment would have to contend with the realpolitik of all those nations/regions simultaneously.
