>On September 10, 2025 (the same day as Kirk's murder), the U.S. Senate voted to block an amendment proposed by Democratic Minority Leader Chuck Schumer that would have required the immediate release of all Department of Justice documents related to the investigation of Jeffrey Epstein (the convicted sex trafficking financier who died in 2019). The amendment was attached to the annual Defense Policy Act (NDAA), a bipartisan text expected to pass.

>The vote was 51-49 to "table" (block consideration) the amendment. All 47 Democrats voted against the block (in favor of release). Of the 53 Republicans, 49 voted in favor of the block, with the exceptions of Rand Paul (KY) and Josh Hawley (MO), who joined the Democrats. Republican Susan Collins (ME) was the deciding vote.
