I had a bass basically fall into my lap some time ago and was really excited about it for like a month and then neglected it for a while, now I'm thinking about picking it back up and wanted to record my progress. I am currently starting from absolute foundations and learning music theory because the last time I touched an instrument was violin when I was like 15.

Does anyone here play an instrument? Have any tips for learning? Want to post your music? I'm gonna be using this thread as a dumping ground for progress updates in order to keep myself motivated so feel free to do the same

what are your inspirations? what bands do you listern? i used tgo be very into bass back then and i wanted to play like les claypool and geezer butler but then i got more interested in guitar and now i want to play like tony iommi, jimi hendrix and eddie van halen. and you?

I don't generally look into the members of bands unless I really like them, I'm still trying to figure that part out basically

My real passion is hardcore music a la Inclination but I think I'll have to settle for metal because bass is all I have unless I want to turn up with the acoustic guitar (which also fell into my lap and I have no idea how to play).

As for aspirations, I don't know. Originally I wanted to be in a band but I think even if it was mutually agreed upon that it was a side project that nobody takes too seriously, it would still be a massive time sink and right now I'm trying to pull myself out of NEEThood so I think joining a band is the last thing I should be doing. It'd still be neat, I'd like to play even little basement shows, but I don't think it's realistic at this point in time. Right now I just think it'd be fun to learn and give me an excuse to talk to people because as it stands I'm a woefully uninteresting person and all I really know anything about is video games and politics which are both not the best foot to start off on with strangers. I think it would also help me appreciate music in general a lot more to know how to play, so maybe I'll be able to get back to you on that once I reach the level of nerdery where I'm bothering to seek out and emulate bass players but for rn it's just fundamentals desu

Refer to >>31196 but also I've been listening to a lot of Knocked Loose, Municipal Waste, and Extortion. I think Party Cannon is funny thematically and I like their whole angle but I'm not huge on their sound personally.

sounds like a keyed idea. im also fond of the thought of learning the bass guitar since its always appealed to me far more than the electric guitar or drums but i always find it way too hard to find the motivation to learn/practice a skill or hobby. i have a starter bass guitar in my house that belongs to a family member, maybe ill try playing it some time soon o algo

Shmupdate on this: I was watching the elfin stream today and found myself much more motivated by way of parssocial relationship, I felt like I had to be presentable for some reason, I think this is because my brain at the lizard level registers watching a stream as the same as being there with someone, and from these findings I've extrapolated that the cure to laziness is socialization; I must make it a priority to create and maintain strong irl friendships in order to keep myself motivated. At the same time I wonder if this will burn out because it's essentially external motivation driven by the vanity of wanting to be able to say I'm doing something with my life so we'll have to see how it works out.

its pretty ambitious but it could work granted bantsissies are musically talented enough to pull it off. i feel like at least a few people here probably play some form of musical instrument, even if that instrument is the tin whistle (aryan btw)

i found out today that the positioning and pressing of your fingers on the fretboard is called "fretting", which sounds a lot like frotting. this is probably why bantoids are predisposed to liking the bass guitar more than any other instrument
