Anyhooze I think the reality of religion is kind of besides the point. It's not provable or disprovable in any case so who really cares, I think if it makes people happy and gives them purpose that's a good thing and I think religion has been a net positive on society, even for all the evils it's caused (which are in any case the result of the abuse of religious structures, power structures, or intertwining religious fundamentalism with political movements; in short, the weaponization of the religion is how we get things like the evils of the Catholic church, Islamic militants, Hindu nationalism, and so on, rather than the religion itself.)
I think religion is a healthy part of any functioning society and any evils one may attribute to religion are more properly laid at the feet of, again, power structures and institutions than the religion itself. Some religions (Islam, for example) have a higher baseline level of intolerance, belligerence, and assimilationism than others, but there are still ways to practice those religions that are proper for modern society. Most Muslims aren't ISIS members.
>But doesn't that mean they aren't following their religion???
I guess, technically, but we all kind of pick and choose anyways. If you're a real tradcath warrior or whatever, start stoning people for wearing mixed fabrics.
The point is the above is a pretty pessimistic take imo. At the risk of nitpicking I also think it's kind of intellectually dishonest to completely rule out the idea of a higher power. You can doubt it and I have no issue with that, neither am I denying evolution as a phenomenon, but none of us know the true origin of species. Everything is theoretical, because we weren't around to witness it, and in any case, there's no unit of measurement for the divine, and thusly no way to measure its absence. I'm not gonna debate this because religious debates become autistic very fast but I just think it's food for thought, and in any case, I don't think Suigintou is the kind of person whose mind can be changed on topics like these
Oh well.
TLDR religion good, religious power structures bad; as for existence of god, no proof for it against so who gaf

high serotonin -> you believe the world is good -> it's easier to believe (I will go to heaven, everything I do has a meaning)
low serotonin -> you believe the world is bad -> it's easier to not believe (it takes off the burden of trying to figure out the meaning of life, if you were to have faith you will come to realization that the world is a torture machine and afterlife will be even worse)
