Everyone watched similar shows so there was less generational gap and differences in worldview. Now everything new is on subscription services and is mentally foreign to older viewers because of references to internet culture and memes. TV news didn't have a comment section full of crazy conspiracy theories and shitflinging. What could be a great a great channel for great thinkers to share unconventional but valuable ideas turned into a machine to fill heads of children with shit. Internet celebrity A says that narcissism is awesome and people should be rated on a 0 to 10 scale. Internet celebrity B says that you're a loser if you work a job and don't have a Ferrari and a yacht. Internet celebrity C tells kids to take drugs to open their third eye.

capitalism did this, the profit motive gradually corrupted everything good and soulful about the internet. even aside from that we now know that the elites have been psyopping society ever since 2011 at the very least albeit shit didn't really kick off until the 2016 election. we're so deep in the hole that even knowing /pol/ was created a day after moot and epstein met many will not be willing to admit the entire belief system they were brainwashed into was a lie, fed to them on purpose.

Anyways you're broadly right. The internet sucks now and like I said it's a combination of the profit motive and elite meddling and I think the way this heals is to legislate away addiction-based business models and to just get the word out that the internet is meant to be consumed alongside real life rather than in substitute of it.
