At a convention there's a good chance a lot of the cosplayers are just attention whores that don't actually care but I'm not going to think about that because getting bitter off of my own unproven assumptions is an easy way to stay unhappy and not enjoy myself.

Still I don't think its a bad thing to derive most of your enjoyment of something from discussing it with others rather than from the thing itself. Touhou has an innumerable amount of secondaries and tertiaries for similar reasons as the shounenshitters, because discussing touhou gameplay/touhou adjacent media is enjoyable for them. In both cases I dont think its bad and does not outright make someone a fake fan.

On the contrary to some people here I have found that normgroids are easily impressed or fascinated by interesting people with interesting hobbies, a lot of the normies at my school loved me because I was such an eccentric (and somewhat spergy) personality, I'm sure part of it was that they wanted to ridicule me but I have no problem playing the fool
