so basically using the boss weaknesses is a must, the ruins on map have icons next to them showing what elemental weapon you'll get in them so they are important
alternatively you could use a relic that adds elemental damage to default weapon then upgrade it with materials from mines
the poison really fucked that dragon, he even has a puking animation when you poison him and is easy to damage during it
try to build synergies, it's a roguelike after all, I got a passive that regenerates your hp when someone is poisoned and it was huge help
