With how homoerotic I think this community is, it's kind of weird to see it hate on deltarune and undertale. Though the newest chapters felt a bit sloppy or maybe rushed imo.

Just finished Undetrale pacifist route and now I remember why its so beloved. Its 1000% sincere. It might act "cringe" at times but it doesn't care. It never acts irony poisoned or cynical towards itself. Its so heartfelt and touching. Asriel fight is pure cinema.

The combat for deltarune is really addicting (when it comes to the hard bosses). Its just dopamine hit after dopamine hit when you get that satisfying kranch of a perfect attack, and get to the point where youre dodging hard patterns perfectly and spamming out rude busters every turn. Gambling on nkt needing to heal. Its sooo good bruh.

Leading to a secret game that hints on how to do the snowgrave route. Which is itself about freedom. Trying to break the prophecy and the player asserting itself more and acting on its own. Even to the point where you can kill off a character and be acknowledged as a separate entity from Kris by Noelle. Gerson also continues the theme of freedom by constantly smashing pieces of the prophecy, talking about how sometimes its funner to take the "wrong" path and directly asking Susie how she wants the story to end. This culminates in the end where she becomes determined to break the prophecy and make her own ending.

But man is DELTARUNE PEAK FICTION. Putting aside the 10/10 soundtrack, 10/10 characters, 10/10 fights, 10/10 humor. It has such peak story elements and metanarrative. The overarching theme of freedom ties really well with the weird route. Where you use your knowledge of future events and saving + loading to break free yourself and deviate from the prophecy. Seemingly breaking the game at certain points. The parts where the game seem to break when you look for the eggs and in the weird route are really cool in general. Plus the increased significance of goners and gaster (cool analogues for cut content. some sort of ghost in the machine). Really gives you that feeling of being a kid and being obsessed with those glitches and rumors of shit hiding in games. Like finding mew under the truck, keeping aerith alive or opening some forever locked door. While still being integrated into the greater narrative in a cool way. There's tons of other stuff too like the Kris+Soul dynamic, references to gnosticism, theorizing about the motivations of the soul (Why do we specifically need Noelle to be stronger? Does it have something to do with Noelle's strong association with the Angel?), the plotting going on with carol + the roaring knight, how the deltarune world is seemingly some sort of "experiment" by gaster (really everything about that guy) etc. etc.
There really isn't any other game like it out right now.
