i actually really don't like koishi's theme. it just sounds bad imo. otherwise i like most of zun's music. the main issue is that you have some standout tracks (ie dark road, autumnal waterfall) but then you have some tracks that just kind of overuse zunpets or some other aspect of the music and seem to run together. he gets carried away sometimes and forgets about rhythm i think.

ZUN is not a God. He's not an embodiment of talent. He is an ordinary bugman. It's not a crime to not salavate over midi songies. Don't be a blind loyalist. That said, Eirin theme and EoSD staff roll theme are absolute 6ems.

The amount of variety is also a lot higher the earlier on you are in the franchise, it's only natural to lose some passion and become streamlined if you keep a franchise going for 26 years, WBaWC is also a high point despite being only 5 years ago
