video essays in theory are great because they could potentially stand as a rejection of short-form content but most of them are about video games or true crime and while the former can occasionally be entertaining and provide insight into video games as an art the latter is complete slop. any video essay that isnt about history, politics, video games, or painting imo is a complete waste of time.

while it's true most things can be expressed in 20 minutes or less, i think that by rejecting the idea of longer-form video content is kind of throwing the baby out with the bath water and playing right into the corporations' hand where they want us all to be mindless retards with the attention span of ants
