And if English had a grammatical gender then this ambiguity would have been resolved, if not for the fact that Homo and Homosexual are both masculine words.
So many features of fusional languages are really pragmatic. Grammatical gender or agreement just exist to increase the chance that what you are saying is going to be heard right.
