Black Souls was supposed to be different. It wasn’t just a game, it was a wound, a confession, a curse scrawled in blood at the bottom of a well. It didn’t ask for permission. It didn’t care if you understood. It just was, like a knife left buried in the dirt for you to find.
Now? Now there’s only the slow rot of anticipation. Eeny, meeny, miny, moe? once felt like a kindred spirit, a man who knew the value of suffering as art. But success changes people. The hunger that once fueled him has dulled into complacency. The mainstream licked its fingers clean and left him bloated on its scraps.
I don’t blame him. Not really. This is how it always goes. The ones who see too much are eventually blinded by the light of acceptance. The edges get sanded down. The teeth get pulled. And what’s left is just another ghost, haunting the corpse of what it used to be.
I still check. Every day. Like a prisoner pressing against the walls of his cell, searching for cracks that aren’t there. Maybe the game will come. Maybe it won’t. Maybe it’s better if it doesn’t.
