better question, how do i motivate myself to actually play stuff i've bought / downloaded instead of the same old comfort games like tf2 etc.

i think the only way people get past this problem is by fooling their brains into seeing it as work (which is more motivating than something that straight up bores you and isn't fun,) guess i'm also too depressed to see trying new games as fun anymore, le sigh

Step (1): Turn on PC
Step (2): Log in
Step (3): Double click game launcher
Step (4): Fool around and learn the mechanics
Step (5): Have fun
I used to have your problem too, you really do just gotta force yourself to do it. We are creatures of habit after all.

I think a large part of game fatigue now has to do with how much time we actually spend gaming. in ye olden days you'd be outside most of the time or else doing other shit so your definition of what a game worth your time was, was much lower.
if you're a busy bee more often than you're not, a couple things happen
>novelty begins to become more attractive, driving you to play a variety of games
>you stop needing to sink 100s of hours into games
but now that many people are hardcore gamers, because of social media, the atomization of society (symptoms of capitalism in my imo), we expect games you can sink thousands of hours into with complex mechanics. because games are more of a dedication now, because of the way we interact with them, we usually settle on one to four games we actively play. I'm guilty of this myself, i rotate between stalker, cod, tf2, and mgs.

i think that's kinda why the wii for example was nuts back in the day but if you hook up your wii and play it today it's kind of a snoozefest aside from the nostalgia factor. there are good wii games dont get me wrong, redsteel is cray cray if you've never played it but we're so alone and hyperstimulated these days that it's difficult to find enjoyment in certain things, and i think that's how the corpos want it.
they ruined your video games. they took that from you, for the sake of their profit. that's how i see it, anyways. we don't have that contrast between going to the library or out with friends or even just reading books or doing shit around the house that used to make video games a novel, fun diversion. now it starts to feel like a job and i think that's part of where the rise in #GamerRage kinda came from. when your life is in a video game it can be frustrating to be playing ur best and have some guy doing stupid or cheesy shit top you on the scoreboard, just for example. and this used to be, like, basement dwellers, but now a lot of otherwise normal people treat this video game shit serious.

tldr: what ails you can largely be solved by touching grass
