>I'm not really a communist, the USSR glaze is 99% larp, because AKs and Soviet uniforms are cool. If I had to put myself into a strict category, I fall somewhere between a Bernstein-style socialist and social democracy.
Yah i kinda felt that, but you`re still one of the...two? left-leaning peoples on this site
>I think communism, in the form Marx prescribed, can only work in a perfect society, which even if that's theoretically able to be achieved, which I don't believe it is, it would only come after generations under socialism.
Well according to Trotsky Marx built his ideas so they could work on german peoples but dont quote me on that because i dont remember where exactly he said that. According to the same Trotsky also (and Lenin whom he quoted iirc) communism was an end-goal more than their actual ideology which was socialism with varying epithets.
>At the root of it all is the perverse incentive of the profit motive, especially when it intersects with shareholder obligations and one is legally required to prioritize quarterly earnings over things like the environment, worker wages both foreign and domestic, or the long-term knock-on effects of their policy (look at how much Facebook alone has fucked society up since ~2015).
Yeap this guy (Debord) thought almost the same but in his ideas its not the money that really matter but commodities which you can buy with money, who in turn serve to keep up the spectacle system afloat by selling people images instead of things and keeping peoples separated and shit
<T H E FET IS H IS M of the commodity - the domination of society by "intangible as well as tangible things" - attains its ultimate fulfilment in the spectacle, where the real world is replaced by a selection of images which are projected above it, yet which at the same time succeed in making themselves regarded as the epitome of reality.
>especially early (think, Stalin) SU, relied a lot on nationalism and in many ways was a Russian imperialist project (ie, forced russification).
Ehhhh, im gonna have to disagree with you here, sure forced russification was real because a state so big and including so many republics kinda needed its lingua franca, but they didnt really had much russian nationalism, instead they tried to strenghten the identities of smaller republics to try and contain it. During Lenin there was a lot of effort to ukrainize Ukraine so to speak but i think Stalin reverted that or something but again dont quote me on that cuz its been a while since i read about it.
>If the USSR didn't include da non-slavoids it'd probably have lost WW2
Well yes, but also no? Ukraine+Belarus+Russia had enough manpower to stave off der Reich but i think Hitlers oil campaign in caucasus would be more successful leading to devastating results in the end. Not that im trying to minimize the role of soldiers from smaller republic in the war though.
>It'd be less powerful and probably fall apart more quickly, on top of N*TO scrambling to gobble up the central Asian states.
Yah but i was thinking if we just went full iron curtain after ww2 and just tried to rely on ourselves NK style instead of getting into foreign adventures. I guess America/Nato would just get a cultural victory so to speak like it did anyways, but sooner maybe.
>Erm. I always thought Ukrainian was just kinda archaic Russian.
Not really, its more like polinized russian or something. You can check out older books from russian empire and ummm books in ukrainian language and compare it.

>you`re still one of the...two? left-leaning peoples on this site
I don't know who that other person would be. Most people here, to my estimation, fall anywhere from far right to center-pushing-on-left. Sure it's an imageboard, and on an imageboard you can say fuck all niggers kill kikes 1488 and then go and vote Democrat because that's just kinda imageboard culture, but I haven't seen many cases of people earnestly expressing even liberal thought, much less leftist, here. In any case, I hope what I had to say was at least an interesting read desu
>Trotsky
Trotsky was kind of a retard. The only thing Trotsky would have realistically done better (in the sense of better for humanity overall) than Stalin is he probably wouldn't have killed as many Soviet citizens or staff. Beyond that, it's best to view anything Trotsky says with an understanding of how he viewed communism; the principle difference between Trotsky and Stalin is that Stalin wanted to focus on the USSR and gradually and strategically export communism, while Trotsky believed communism must be expanded as rapidly and zealously as possible. He was also much more of a hardline communist than Stalin ever was, and had some funky ideas about a range of different topics. Bear in mind, I'm no fan of Stalin - he was a paranoid murderer, but Trotsky wasn't exactly sane, either. I would loathe to be Lenin, and stuck with those two as my potential successors. Even so, I think Marx primarily suffers from being a writer in the 1800s, dealing with 1800s issues. I can't speak on if his ideas only work for Germany or not, I do know that he was a student of Hegel and thusly has some pretty nutty ideas on the "stages of society", as if they're set in stone. The alunya soyteen a while back said that Marx rejected strict Hegelian societal phases but idk if I buy that, I'll have to read more Marx and see.
>communism was an end-goal more than their actual ideology
That's correct, though. The actual ideology at play is more accurately called "socialism" than "communism", because "communism" describes a mode of governance, yes, but it's one that the USSR never reached. Communism is COMPLETELY without class or markets, except perhaps the government which you could argue constitutes a class, but under ideal circumstances the government works strictly for the people. I think. The issue with communism is there's a lot of poisoning the well and people making up contradictory definitions happens a lot, but that's my understanding of it, as the goal of communism is to create a utopian society upon the economic belief that capitalism is the source of economic evil and completely unable to be rehabilitated. It is communalism, taken to the extreme. Given the USSR had money, leadership was top-down rather than flat or nearly flat, had specific elites, and markets, especially with Glasnost and Perestroika, the USSR failed to achieve communism.

Fuck off

>Yeap this guy (Debord) thought almost the same but in his ideas its not the money that really matter but commodities which you can buy with money, who in turn serve to keep up the spectacle system afloat by selling people images instead of things and keeping peoples separated and shit
I don't think that's the case. I think what he's pointing to in that excerpt is conspicuous consumption or the concept of bread and circus, with consumer products being the metaphorical bread, but I think both of those kinda cease to exist at any dangerous level if you remove the systemic issues underpinning them (that is, people will always buy bread, that isn't the issue; it's the circus telling them to buy bread, telling them they aren't cool if they don't have the latest sourdough, et cetera.) There's definitely something to be said of the perverse nature of advertisement, especially in the modern era, what with the infinite scroll, ads being jammed in more and more places, and so on, and I daresay the left is partially to blame for the post-2015 advertisement epidemic. Maybe this is a very internet-centric way of looking at things, but advertisers only really started to become malicious forces with lots of leverage (or rather, realized the leverage they held) around 2015, when the adpocalypse took place. If you think back to then, at least here in America, distinctly from now, PC and cancel culture were real and thriving, and given it was still Obama's White House, companies like Pepsi didn't want their ad next to, say, a Filthy Frank video, because the leftist majority would whine and cry that he said bad words. That, to me, is how we got into the mess we're in today where tiktokers say "I really opposite of like that she self-unalived after getting graped in the panini". Road to hell is paved in good intentions, right? Regardless, I think it's kind of a misplaced grievance, because it shifts what's really an issue with mass advertising onto consumer choice. The human brain wasn't built to deal with a billion different screens telling them they aren't adequate unless they get x or y product, especially today where the rate of exposure is dramatically increased with short form content (compare, for example, commercials on the TV, which most people took as their cue to go take a piss, to the endless TikTok scroll, where every other video is trying to sell you a VPN or Viagra or some shit). Debord sounds interesting, though. Never read him, maybe you can give me a recommendation?
>During Lenin there was a lot of effort to ukrainize Ukraine
I was not aware
:kanmarisa:
Sure, a confederation that big needs an administrative language, but it was always my impression that there were those within the USSR's top brass that saw the USSR as basically a revival of the Russian Empire. Of course they wouldn't say it out loud but I was taught someplace or other that while yes the USSR did a lot of good in the republics there was also a sense that they were kinda "pets" to the Russians in a sense?? Idk. Maybe I'm totally off the mark. I know that towards the end of things the USSR got a lot more tolerant but ya. Not certain. You're the Russian here, tell me about it, if you know about it.
>Not that im trying to minimize the role of soldiers from smaller republic in the war though.
No, I get it. It's a fun little what-if. I agree with you though, particularly Azerbaijan. A lot of ppl on this board probably already know about this but TONS of Muslims fought with or were sympathetic to the Axis, and I have no reason to think non-Soviet Azerbaijan would be any different. They'd probably figure Hitler was coming for them anyways and try to join to soften the blow.
>I guess America/Nato would just get a cultural victory so to speak like it did anyways, but sooner maybe.
It's about more than culture. This is cold war NATO, baby. That means nuke silos in Kazakhstan. Fully militarized borders. No trade along the silk road, no connections to India, no Cuba, no nothing. If the SU went full NK, they'd probably be a little more successful, able to keep all of Russia's natural gas, for example, but they'd be surrounded on all sides and constantly fearing getting schnuked. CIA ops would be way way easier, and tbh a purely Slavic USSR would probably delegitimize communism forever, because the most prominent commie state was just ethnonationalism in disguise or somesuch.
Even then the idea of a Slavic USSR kinda falls onto its face if you know the first thing about Russian demographics. Do they just give up all the ethnic territories? Do they become their own countries? Is there an East and West Russia? Are they just second-class citizens? Sounds like a great way to get revolts - "Oh, you want to join our glorious red army, tovarisch? Yeah, well, you're from Nenets and your eyes are too slanted, so, fuck off." - because that will definitely not lead to revolt.

>I don't know who that other person would be.
I was thinking of crimean (american-born) femboy desu
>The only thing Trotsky would have realistically done better (in the sense of better for humanity overall) than Stalin is he probably wouldn't have killed as many Soviet citizens or staff.
He said (in revolution betrayed) that excessive bureaucracy was the reason real communism (tm) didnt take off after Lenin died though. But yeah, he probably wouldn't have gulag'd that much people.
>the principle difference between Trotsky and Stalin is that Stalin wanted to focus on the USSR and gradually and strategically export communism, while Trotsky believed communism must be expanded as rapidly and zealously as possible.
Yeah, but in the same book Trotsky also said he was counting on german communist to rise up and support them for worldwide (at least Europe-wide if we`re being optimistic) revolution. Who knows really how it would have turned out if he kept his power, at the very least as history has shown communist ideas appealed to a lot of people worldwide during ussr times, except USA maybe.
>I can't speak on if his ideas only work for Germany or not
I have yet to read him too desu, but i was quoting Trotsky again on that point. He said something along the lines that Marx's ideas could only be applied on german mindset and for slavs you have to find another way. or something.
>Given the USSR had money, leadership was top-down rather than flat or nearly flat, had specific elites, and markets, especially with Glasnost and Perestroika, the USSR failed to achieve communism.
Yup, Trotsky again talked about that, how soviet not-bourgeoisie in ussr post-lenin was basically the same thing as the capitalist countries had, just painted in red.
>I don't think that's the case...et cetera.)
Yes thats what he wanted to say kinda but also his point was that the gubmint is trying (has succesfully tried) to turn bread into circuses. or something. He goes pretty in-depth on it and im not really that well versed in marxist theory to fully get what hes trying to say though.
>Never read him, maybe you can give me a recommendation?
Um he has 2 major books, Society of the spectacle and Comments on society of the spectacle. They are both about 100 pages long, one is bit longer and the other is shorter, Society has more theory while Comments is more grounded.
>I was not aware
ummmm its not bias i swear it really happened. It was part of korenization policy.
https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Ukrainization
>but it was always my impression that there were those within the USSR's top brass that saw the USSR as basically a revival of the Russian Empire
ummmm past Lenin i guess, but i dont think there were that many russian nationals in GenSec position anyhow. Everyone got along fairly well (not counting formerly European states past ukraine/belarus of course (and out of those excluding yugos) because they were too used to being under Austrian/German rule)
>A lot of ppl on this board probably already know about this but TONS of Muslims fought with or were sympathetic to the Axis
A fitting ally for the chuddies, they are both trad after all. Guenon comes to mind, and i think Houllebecq also had a book about how muslims took over France by allowing white pipo to convert and partake in such trad activities as having multiple wives and shit.
